Audemars Piguet launches Code 11.59 Minute Repeater Supersonnerie with smoked sapphire dial
A modern take on a classic complication.
In addition to the Universelle grand complication, Audemars Piguet has another ace up its sleeve in the round watch collection. Originally launched with a blue enamel dial, the Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Minute Repeater Supersonnerie now features a smoked sapphire dial and rose gold case for a more distinctive look.
One of the attractions of repeaters is the mysteries of the racks and levers that drive the repeater mechanism, which are usually hidden under the dial. Sometimes the best way to uncover their secrets is to simply not use a physical dial.
A transparent sapphire dial is perfect for a minute repeater, as this complication is usually built on the dial side of the movement. Unlike other front-facing complications, such as perpetual calendars, repeater complications are highly interactive – the racks move in a mechanical dance during the repeater sequence, while the chimes sound, a performance that heightens the complication’s appeal.
For the Code 11.59 in particular, the tinted sapphire dial works particularly well. Paired with high-contrast pink gold, it is an ideal complement to the case design, as it blends an otherwise classic complication with a modern twist that complements the case’s modern styling.
